A covered wagon has a closed body of walls, a roof and doors that slide or swing open, keeping cargo shielded from the weather and harder to tamper with in transit. It's the wagon of choice for grain, palletised freight, bagged goods and anything that simply can't get wet.
Most of the variation between models comes down to the doorway. Wider openings speed up forklift loading, gangways between wagons let crew move down the train without stepping onto the track, and double-deck builds exist specifically for hauling livestock.
