A flat wagon is essentially a bare deck, with no roof and sides that are either missing entirely or low enough to fold down, so cargo can be worked from above or from the side instead of through a door opening.
These wagons handle containers, machinery, steel products, timber, vehicles and oversized loads that no enclosed design would take. Since nothing physically contains the cargo, it all rides on lashing to fixed deck points, so the securing plan matters as much as the wagon does.
