Wagons for Oil Products & Dump Cars: Types & Details

This category actually groups two designs that solve opposite problems. Bitumen and heavy oil wagons carry cargo that's nearly solid at normal temperatures, so the body is insulated and heated just to keep the load pumpable enough to discharge hot.

Dump cars solve it the other way round. The body tips to one side, both sides, or opens along the floor, dropping aggregate, ore or spoil in seconds with no unloading gear needed at the far end. That's exactly why they're the standard wagon for construction and track-maintenance work, where material has to land right beside the rails.
